Close to 50% of youth in the municipality of Travnik are unemployed, according to the Analysis of the survey on the needs and problems of youth in the municipality of Travnik.

The Analysis showed that over 90% of youth leave the education system, the number of elementary and secondary school students is on the decline, and around 70% of youth are unmarried.

The Analysis was conducted for the purpose of developing Travnik’s Youth Strategy, and the quality of the document is evident in the fact that the working group for the Strategy, in addition to competent ministries and institutions, includes many youth who wanted to actively participate in developing this document. These are young people with a university education, who decided to use their knowledge for developing and improving their local communities.

According to the Analysis, this municipality has 11000 young people, which is 20% of the entire population.

The survey was administered to 504 young people, by the Institute for Youth Development KULT as a consultant in the entire process of developing the Youth Strategy for this municipality.

The Strategy will be developed by the Center for Youth Education in cooperation with the Youth Commission of the Municipality of Travnik, with active participation of CSOs, sports clubs, cultural, medical and educational and other public institutions. The development of the Strategy is supported by the UNDP as a part of the ReLOaD project (Regional Program on Local Democracy in the Western Balkans).

A Youth Strategy is a document developed by the government, detailing a programme approach to youth issues, including defined problems and needs of youth, strategic action and goals, and measures for achieving these goals.

Today, the Institute for Youth Development KULT signed a contract with the Democratic Youth Organization from Velika Kladuša. The Institute is providing funds for youth advocacy activities in this region, in an effort to strengthen the youth sector. Future steps include issuing public calls for awarding grants for various youth activities, in an attempt to further strengthen the youth sector.

The representative of the Democratic Youth Community, Ms. Jasmina Keserović thanked the Institute for the opportunity to implement various activities for youth in Velika Kladuša, Bosanski Petrovac, Bihać and Bužim, and said she is certain that this initiative will contribute to improving the position of youth in the Una-Sana Canton. The initiative will last for 12 months, and will include 1200 youth from ascross BiH, in activities aimed at implementing the Law on Youth of FBiH.

The Institute for Youth Development KULT, with the support of the Embassy of Sweden, will be providing funds for strengthening the youth sector in BiH.

During the fifth module, the 13th generation of the Learn, Think and Act! training learned about lobbying and public advocacy.

During the module, the participants learned about the types and levels of government, since the public advocacy process requires in-depth knowledge and respect for institutional competencies. The participants also learned about the basics of public advocacy and lobbying, and interactive activities helped them hone their advocacy and lobbying skills they can use for their upcoming LGI, and future initiative they may lead to improve their communities and the society.

Public advocacy skills as the foundation of civil activism are particularly important for young activists, and allow them to advocate and lobby for their own initiatives intended to improve the position of youth in the society. The group visited the Institute’s main office, met the employees and learned about the inner workings of the Institute.

The participants were particularly inspired by “Coffee Time With… Draško Stanivuković”, member of the Assembly of the City of Banja Luka, who also advocates for finding the solutions to certain issues in his community. Draško’s speech was inspiring and he shared valuable advice, telling youth to be introspective and always look for ways they can contribute to the society.

During the last day of the module, the participants learned more about the public aspect of advocacy, how to shape their messages about advocacy initiatives and how to present them to the public.

The training was held at the Educational-Leisure Center for Youth SPAJALICA, for 25 young people across BiH.

During a session held on 5 March 2018, the Assembly of the Una-Sana Canton adopted the Proposal Youth Strategy 2018-2022.


This documents outlines a systemic approach to youth and focuses o their needs in seven key areas: education, employment, healthcare, leisure time, safety, mobility and social protection.

The adoption of the Youth Strategy is the beginning of a systematic approach to regulating areas important to youth. The Strategy, along with action plans, will allow youth to access their rights through improved institutional mechanisms. Once the Strategy is adopted, all ministries in the Una-Sana Canton will develop action plans.


The Institute for Youth Development KULT offered expert advisory support in the process of developing the Youth Strategy of the Una-Sana Canton.

Travnik should soon be getting a youth strategy for the 2019-2022 period.

The first meeting of leaders of working groups in charge of developing the document was held at the Youth Education Center.

Quality of the document is guaranteed by the fact that the working group (in addition to representatives of competent ministries and institutions) is comprised of a significant number of young people, who wanted to participate in developing the document. These are young people with a university education, who decided to use their knowledge to improve and develop their local community.

The first meeting included a training for participants, intended to teach them about the process of developing this document, the importance of youth strategies in local communities, the legislative groundwork, steps in developing the strategy, and difficulties they may encounter so that they can eliminate them on time.

Before the document is written, a survey will be conducted on the needs and problems of youth in the municipality of Travnik. The results will be presented to the public, and the working groups will use them as guidelines for developing the strategy.

The development of the strategy will be implemented by the Youth Education Center in cooperation with the Youth Commission of the Travnik Municipality, CSOs, sports clubs, cultural, medical, educational and other public institutions, whose representatives will participate in developing the strategy.

The Draft youth strategy for Sarajevo Canton was adopted during the Assembly of Sarajevo Canton, on March 5, 2018. 


By adopting this document, the Canton showed their willingness to work on improving the position of youth, and this is the Canton's first draft. 


The Draft was developed by the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth of Sarajevo Canton with the support of representatives of all competent ministries, assembly bodues, the City of Sarajevo, the Student Parliament of the University of Sarajevo, the Association of High School Students and the Youth Council of SC, and forwarded to the Government of discussion.

The adoption of the Draft strategy will be followed by public hearings in municipal and cantonal bodies.  


The adoption of the Youth Strategy will initiate the process of systematically approaching areas important for youth. Along with action plans, the Strategy will allow youth from Sarajevo Canton to use the improved institutional mechanisms to access their rights. 


The process of developing the Youth Strategy was coordinated by the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth of Sarajevo Canton. The Institute for Youth Development KULT provided expert advisory support in the process of developing the Youth Strategy of Sarajevo Canton.
