SPAJALICA Welcomes Back Young Leaders

UMiD 15 Modul VI 2

As restrictions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic eased, the Educational-Leisure Center for Youth SPAJALICA opened its door again and welcomed youth back. After more than three months, participants of the Learn, Think and Act! training for young leaders met in Spajalica to learn and work together.

During the three-day module, youth from across BiH talked about good communication, the skills it requires and how they can be learned and perfected. Participants learned about media literacy and public relations - crucial topics for every future leader. They took part in interactive workshops and learned how to craft a message, who to target, when and how to send it, and other important facets of communicating with the public.

“I’m happy to be back at the Institute for Youth Development KULT and taking part in this module on communications and public relations. I was very interested in this topic, and our trainer Aldin Alić did a great job. We had a lot of practical work, and became an even better team. I’m happy to see us all making progress together and pushing our own boundaries.” - said Marija Mališ, UMiD 15 participant from Foča.

The Institute believes in the importance of experiential learning for young leaders and organizes Coffee Time With… events hosted by successful young people from BiH who motivate and encourage those around them, and uplift and improve their communities. During the sixth module, the host of Coffee Time was young journalist Slađan Tomić, who talked to UMiD participants about the media, their role in activism and the society, the media landscape in BiH and issues that are particularly important for young leaders.

“When communicating with the media, youth shouldn’t present their activities the standard way with an overabundance of technical details. They should instead focus on the results they achieved. When communicating with the public, young people need to provide clear and concise information, presented in a way that elicits a response from the audience.” said Slađan.

Participants will get a chance to use what they learned during the sixth module once they start implementing local civil initiatives next month.

The fifteenth generation of UMiD comprises 24 participants from 22 different local communities, and the 2020 training cycle is implemented with the support of the Swedish Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
