Will Sarajevo Become the 2026 European Youth Capital?

Five cities have reached the finals for the prestigious title of European Youth Capital 2026, thanks to their commitment to young people, continuous investment, and efforts to integrate youth into everyday city life.

One of those cities is Sarajevo!

Every year, the largest platform for youth organizations in Europe, the European Youth Forum, awards the title of European Youth Capital. This title gives a new European city the opportunity to showcase innovative ideas, projects, and activities aimed at amplifying the voices of young people and bringing fresh perspectives to all aspects of community life.

Today, the finalist cities have the opportunity to demonstrate to the jury why they deserve to be awarded the title of European Youth Capital 2026.

To earn the title of European Youth Capital, it’s crucial that we shape Sarajevo around the perspectives and opinions of its youth. Their views are the most important aspect here. That’s why today, Mayor Benjamina Karić and youth representative Amila Čengić are joining forces in Brussels to champion the cause of Sarajevo youth!

The title of European Youth Capital in 2023 would highlight the importance of investing in young people and developing strategic initiatives. It would also position Sarajevo as a model city for effective youth policies and collaboration with youth, setting a benchmark for other cities.

We will be on the edge of our seats until November 27, 2023.

We wish Mayor Benjamina and Amila the best of luck today in their shared mission to secure the title of European Youth Capital, because young people are the heart of Sarajevo!

Partners of the City of Sarajevo in the Sarajevo European Youth Capital application are:  Institute for Youth Development KULT, Zora Association, Stari Grad Municipality, Centar Municipality, Novo Sarajevo Municipality, Novi Grad Municipality, Novo Sarajevo Municipality Youth Council, Stari Grad Municipality Youth Council, Novi Grad Youth Council and FBiH Youth Council.
