Building organizational capacities refers to the process of increasing an organization’s ability to achieve its goals effectively. The Institute for Youth Development KULT has developed a specific methodology and tools used for assessing organizational capacities (KULT/POK®) and performance (KULT/POP®). Both tools are used to determine the current level of development by identifying the strengths and weaknesses of the organization, and provide recommendations and guidelines for strengthening organizational capacities and performance. The Institute provides advisory support to organizations using a carefully developed methodology that is continuously improved and adapted to trends and legal regulations. This support involves active participation of the organization and long-term guidance from the Institute in the development of strategic and developmental documents, policies, procedures, and their implementation in practice. KULT/POK® and KULT/POP® are certified programs accompanied by a three-year capacity and performance development index. The developmental methodological approach in working with organizations includes various types of training, individual and group mentoring, consulting in different areas, networking and connecting, and other support elements.
All initiatives, projects, and programs implemented by the Institute in collaboration with non-governmental organizations aim to strengthen their organizational capacities and improve their performance in working with beneficiaries and target groups.
KULT/POK®
KULT/POK® is an online self-assessment and assessment tool for organizational capacities, which uses different categories and indicators to evaluate organizational capacities.
KULT/POK® consists of three phases:
(I) Phase – involves self-assessment, which organizations go through independently,
(II) Phase – involves verification, where organizations provide documentation to prove and justify their ratings from the first phase, and
(III) Phase – involves assessment, where the Institute’s commission reviews, analyzes, and verifies the submitted documentation, which serves as a basis for preparing specific recommendations and plans/strategies for capacity strengthening, created for that organization.
Upon completion of the self-assessment and assessment, the level of organizational development is determined, and an index ranging from 1.00 to 4.00 is assigned.
KULT/POP®
KULT/POP® is an online self-assessment and assessment tool for organizational performance, which helps evaluate organizational performance through different components.
KULT/POP® consists of three phases:
(I) Phase – involves self-assessment, which organizations go through independently,
(II) Phase – involves verification, where organizations provide documentation to prove and justify their ratings from the first phase, and
(III) Phase – involves assessment, where the Institute’s commission reviews, analyzes, and verifies the submitted documentation, which serves as a basis for preparing specific recommendations and plans/strategies for performance improvement, created for that organization.
Upon completion of the self-assessment and assessment, the level of organizational performance is determined, and an index ranging from 1.00 to 10.00 is assigned.
Through carefully designed mentoring support provided to non-governmental organizations by the Institute for Youth Development KULT, various thematic trainings are organized for organization representatives. The goal of all trainings and educational programs is to create conditions for organizational sustainability and strengthen capacity and performance by guiding organizations through systemic and carefully planned processes designed to help them reach optimal sustainability. An important benefit of the trainings is the opportunity to establish business contacts and network with other organizations that share the same or similar values and goals.
The topics and areas of the trainings are informed by different programs and the needs of the organizations.
The Institute has developed a standardized mentoring model for non-governmental organizations and their representatives, which builds upon other Institute’s working models in order to strengthen the capacity and performance of organizations in BiH and the region. Mentoring is a long-term process in which pairs are formed (a more experienced mentor with a less experienced mentee), who work together for a period of at least six months to implement an individual development plan. The plan involves defining mentoring goals, activities, expected results, as well as necessary resources and a timeframe in which the set goals should be achieved. Within the framework of mentoring support, standardized support is provided, with clear mentoring guidelines and methods,, and followed by an assessment of the success of the mentoring intervention.
The concept is used as a form of professional development through observing everyday activities, work, the work environment, and the application of different methods and work models in practice. The goal of the program is knowledge transfer, experience sharing, and providing practical advice in various areas of non-governmental organizations’ work, which are important for the development and improvement of organizational capacities.
Job Shadowing is a personalized model designed for employees/key personnel of other organizations and adapted to the organization’s level of development. In accordance with the organization’s needs, a visit plan and the involvement of different departments of the Institute are prepared.
