Shout, Don’t Just Speak About Violence Against Women!

“We shouldn’t just talk, we should scream at the top of our lungs about violence against women, all of us together,” said Lana Delić, the lead actress in the film “Voiceless,” after its premiere on Friday, February 25, at the Igman Cinema in Sarajevo. With the premiere of the film and a conversation with the team behind it, the Institute for Youth Development KULT marked another Orange Day – Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and Girls.

The documentary feature film “Bez glasa” (Voiceless) tells the true story of a victim’s life with a violent man who inflicted years of physical and psychological abuse on her before she escaped and found refuge in a safe house. The story sheds light on the lives of marginalized women who need support in fighting for their rights and a life without violence. The film was produced by Studio Teatar, as part of their “Speak up, don’t look away!” project on raising awareness of violence against women through art, with the support of the U.S. Embassy in BiH.

After the premiere, the audience had a chance to talk to Nusmir Muharemović, producer and director, Mirza Begović, screenwriter and director, and the leading actress, Lana Delić. They talked about how they came to be inspired by the true story Edina O. – the victim of violence whose story is portrayed in the film, what it was like to play a woman who was a victim of violence, and why it is important to use art to discuss important topics in the BiH society, such as the increasingly frequent violence against women and girls.  The audience, which was comprised of mostly young people, shared their thoughts and impressions and their feelings about the story of a woman victim of violence. They agreed that the film should also be screened in primary and secondary schools and universities.

The broadcast of the documentary-feature film “Voiceless” will begin soon, so anyone interested in the film will be able to watch it on TV.
