Youth in BiH are often labeled as passive and indifferent. This, however, couldn’t be further from the truth, as evidenced by the Learn, Think and Act! training for young leaders. Members of the 16th UMiD generation will be implementing their initiatives in 11 cities across BiH in an effort to improve and help their communities. They will have the support of the Institute for Youth Development KULT and the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in BiH, who are providing 15,000 BAM of funding to these young people with ideas.
Petar Vidović from Foča is one of the training participants who will be supported by the Institute while he spends the next few months organizing the first Summit of Medical Students – Researchers in BiH. Petar says the Summit in Foča will include students from medical faculties in Mostar, Sarajevo and Foča, and the focus will be on science activism. “Our goal is to encourage participants of the Summit to form professional associations focused on research projects. We would also like to establish an informal union of student researchers in BiH, so we can cooperate on research important for our society and write scientific papers together”, said this young researcher, adding that the Summit will involve 15 top students with experience in research projects and publishing papers.
The Summit in Foča is one of many planned activities – youth from 10 other communities will conduct initiatives aimed at promoting and building trust and reconciliation among young people, protecting human rights and building young people’s capacities and skills. Some of the projects will promote young people’s right to run for elections, advocate for improving youth infrastructure and support the development of skills young people need to adequately respond to the demands of modern society.
By signing these contracts today, the Institute for Youth Development KULT continues providing youth across BiH with financial support and mentorship.
