UMiD Kids: Learning About Choices and Consequences Through Roleplay

More than 20 girls and boys spent another great weekend learning and having fun during our training for our youngest participants – UMiD Kids. Over the weekend, our little participants learned about choices and consequences, and the importance of taking responsibility for their actions.

Kids enjoyed the roleplay exercise, which showed them in a simple and practical way how every decision we make has consequences that can be good or bad, depending on our judgment and decision making. We talked about what to do if our actions cause bad consequences. Problem solving is a very important topic that we spent a lot of time on, and we used practical examples to show that every problem has a solution. By talking about the problems we encounter, how we can respond to them and solve them the easiest way we can, kids learned a lot about themselves and others.

During this module, the young participants visited the City Hall and Inat kuća in Sarajevo. They were happy to act the role of councilpersons and make decisions important for children and our community.

The next, final, module will be held on July 25 and 26, and will be focused on team work and anger management. Eight-year-old Nika says that UMiD Kids is a really fun summer activity and that she’s sad the training is ending, but also happy that she took part in the first training. Maša Hodžić, participant Ema’s mom, said she was grateful for the effort the UMiD Kids team invests every month to make sure that the training is organized impeccably.

UMiD Kids is an interactive educational program for children, consisting of 12 modules dealing with topics relevant to a child’s intellectual, emotional and sociological development. The goal of this program is to improve children’s confidence, deepen their connection with parents, their school and friends, to help them see themselves and others in context and more clearly, to develop a sensibility to others and themselves.

UMiD Kids is implemented by the Institute for Youth Development KULT with the support of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in BiH.
