Every 25th of the month is commemorated as Orange Day – the day of fighting violence over women and girls. The Institute for Youth Development KULT, with the support of the American Embassy in BiH, organized public dancing with flash mob choreography of the professional dance group “Fresh Generation”, in order to emphasize this rarely discussed problem.
The activists of the Institute for Youth Development KULT and the citizens supported fighting violence over women and girls in BiH through dancing, and thus contributed to raising the awareness of BiH citizens on the problem of violence.
The 2013 research of the Agency for Gender Equality in BiH demonstrated that almost half of the research participants experenced at least one form of violence by the age of fifteen.
“The statistics is devastating. It is even more alarming that the recent research demonstrated that the problem of domestic violence in our country is increasing. That is why we have to constantly talk about this. We need to include youth as well, along with all the other social actors, in the long-term complex process of resolving this issue” – stated Mirela Ajanovi? from the Institute for Youth Development KULT.
What gives a particular strength to this initiative is the fact that on the same day and in the same symbolical manner, the campaign is being conducted all over the world, thanks to the Global UNiTE youth network, the member of which is the Institute for Youth Development KULT.
The UN Secretary General declared the 25th of each month as “Orange Day”, the day of reminding of importance of preventing, stopping and punishing violence over women and girls.
