The Project Strengthening Governing Institutions and Processes in Bosnia and Herzegovina held a round table today on strengthening the inter-institutional cooperation of key institutions in BiH in the fight against corruption based on the findings from the audits.
The round table was attended by representatives of the institutions in BiH, who discussed the topic of inter-institutional cooperation and coordination of institutions with overlapping competencies, in order to improve cooperation, mutual support and coordination in achieving better results in the work of each individual institutions, as well as improving the common synergistic results.
The participants of the round table included representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH, Parliament of FBiH, Audit Office for the Institutions of BiH, Prosecutorâ€™s Office, Agency for the Prevention of Corruption and Coordination of the Fight Against Corruption, and the nongovernmental sector, including a representative of the Institute for Youth Development KULT.
The round table included analytical highlights for the financial audit reports for the period between 2003 and 2013, intended as a summary of 619 analysed reports. The participants of the round table discussed the extent to which audit reports, especially those with adverse or qualified opinions can be used in promoting the fight against corruption. The Audit Office presented their work on strengthening preventative measures in fighting corruption. The Prosecutorâ€™s Office informed the attendees on the procedure of processing the audit reports sent to the Prosecutorâ€™s Office.
Themes discussed at the round table included the improvement of controls and strengthening of the system of internal controls, as well as performing a compliance audit as one of the three audits which can be performed in institutions (in addition to the financial and efficiency audits) pursuant to the Law on Auditing. The participants also discussed the possibility of conducting a forensic audit.
Participants of the round table agreed to hold such meetings regularly.
