People who perform at the top of their field are acutely aware of the importance and role of discipline in their success. Amel Tuka, our best athlete and one of the best runners in the world, is one of these people. Amel spent the afternoon with our little participants of the UMiD Kids training, teaching them about the importance of discipline in life.
UMiD Kids is an interactive educational program for children, consisting of 12 modules dealing with topics relevant to a child’s intellectual, emotional and sociological development. The goal of this program is to improve children’s confidence, deepen their connection with parents, their school and friends, to help them see themselves and others in context and more clearly, to develop a sensibility to others and themselves.
“I have to say, I had a great time today with our little ones. They were so curious, they had a million questions and I’m happy I got to be the one to answer them and share my experience. I’m also happy that they shared with me what they want to be when they grow up. Today we were focused on discipline and how important it is for everything we do in life”, said our best athlete, adding that spending time with kids is relaxing and he tries to spend as much of his free time as he can with kids.
He organized a short race to show them in practice what discipline means in sports. The kids also learned what to when they win, how to accept defeat and learn from it.
UMiD Kids is implemented by the Institute for Youth Development KULT and attended by kids ages 8 to 10. The training is free for the children because the costs are covered by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in BiH.
