Draft Law on Prevention and Suppression of Corruption in Sarajevo Canton Adopted

The Draft Law on Prevention and Suppression of Corruption in Sarajevo Canton was adopted today during the 54th session of the Sarajevo Canton Assembly, with 25 votes in favor.

This Law regulates three very important areas in the fight against corruption: conflict of interest, protection of whistleblowers, and strengthening of integrity in public sector institutions.

The Institute for Youth Development KULT, in collaboration with the Anti-Corruption and Quality Control Office of Sarajevo Canton, conducted an analysis of measures to prevent conflicts of interest within the institutions of Sarajevo Canton. This analysis is one of the initial steps toward drafting by-laws.

Numerous proposals were received during the 45-day public discussion, with most of them incorporated into the draft’s final version. The involvement of all relevant stakeholders strengthens the legal framework in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Anti-Corruption and Quality Control Office of Sarajevo Canton welcomes active engagement from those committed to fighting for a more just society.

The body authorized to implement the Law, which will enter into force on January 1, 2023, is the Anti-Corruption and Quality Control Office of Sarajevo Canton.

It also strives to foster a legal framework that will bring more transparency into the work of government institutions.
