Visionary Ideas on Stage for Creative Thinkers

In a world that often values conformity and uniformity above all else, TEDxSarajevo offers a stage for more adventurous thinkers. Jasmin Bešić, CEO of the Institute for Youth Development KULT, was one of seven speakers who shared their visionary ideas.

Jasmin Bešić spoke about the key dilemma young people in Bosnia and Herzegovina faced: whether to go abroad in search of better opportunities or to stay and fight for a better future in their homeland. Bešić pointed out that more than 50% of young people want to leave the country, and over 12% have already taken steps towards that goal.

The Institute for Youth Development KULT launched our #necudaidem campaign a few years ago to draw attention to this concerning trend. Bešić emphasized that young people primarily cite lack of prospects and being ignored by the authorities as the main reasons for wanting to leave the country.

He also talked about the issue of youth political disengagement. In the 2020 municipal elections young people did not vote for their peers. So, the question is: Do young politicians ignore young people because young people ignore elections, or is it the other way around?

Bešić ended his speech with a call to action. Instead of just showing up for the free snacks, we should get involved and shape the future we all deserve!
