Strong Political Image and Networking: Keys to Local Election Success

A group of young politicians, members of different BiH political parties, has started their training during which they will learn, think and act to improve the lives of young people in our country.

Throughout 2024, the Institute will be working with 18 young politicians, empowering them to advocate for the interests of youth in their communities. The first module focused on preparing for the 2024 local elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The intensive and interactive training module provided young politicians with the chance to build on their skills and gain essential knowledge for political success.

“The UMiDp training is a unique opportunity to learn tools for empowering the young people of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Developing the self-confidence and political skills necessary for active participation in social life and decision-making that impacts our lives and community will greatly benefit my political career. I also met great young politicians from all over Bosnia and Herzegovina.” says Tarik Alić, member of NiP and city councilor in Goražde.

Through this training, the Institute aims to support young politicians in building a strong and positive image, helping them stand out in local elections. Participants engaged in various workshops and lectures, focusing on enhancing their personal communication skills, building self-confidence in dialogue, and improving their debating and argumentation abilities. During the first module, participants visited the National Assembly of Republika Srpska and learned about the work done by specialized services, including how they prepare parliamentary sessions.  Next, the training participants will focus on advocating for youth issues and understanding Bosnia and Herzegovina’s political system. Participants will further explore branding, strategies for effective election campaigns, and techniques for engaging with the electorate.

This training is a great example of how young people can be provided with valuable tools for personal and professional development. The trainer simplified complex concepts using engaging presentations and practical exercises. One of the most important aspects of this training was the networking opportunity. The energy and enthusiasm of the participants were infectious, which is why I am looking forward to future modules that will definitely contribute to positive changes in society,” says Barbara Antolović from HDZ BiH.

UMiD for Young Political Leaders (UMiDp) is the Institute’s program for young politicians (ages 18-30)  from different political parties and different local communities. During this 15-day training, young politicians learn the skills they need to navigate the political landscape and advocate for the rights of young people. During the training, participants learn about the political system by combining theory and practice, with the ultimate goal of effectively advocating for better youth representation. During the training, they will learn how to build a political image that will set them apart as innovative, youth-friendly politicians.
