First Panoramic Map For Persons With Visual Impairments in BiH Set Up With Support of localworks

The Pride of Cazin public event, which commemorates the City of Cazin Day, included a presentation of initiatives implemented by citizens, civil society organizations and institutions. The aim of the event was to put the spotlight on young people who achieved results that benefit Cazin.

The initiatives included one supported by localworks, called Learn About My City, which was proposed by an informal group of individuals involved in the work of the Center for the Development of Inclusive Practices and designed as a series of activities in Cazin designed to raise awareness and sensitize citizens to the needs of persons with disabilities. The Center currently has 150 young users with disabilities under the age of 18.

This action comprised 4 workshops, one theater play and two simulations. With this local action, they launched advocacy activities aimed at ensuring that the City Council adopts an official document recognizing the interests of persons with disabilities in Cazin. The localworks supported this action with BAM 5300.00, and the action received support from local partners too.

One recently completed activity concerned the installation of a panoramic map adapted for persons with visual impairments. The panoramic map is located in the center of the city, and contains landmarks in the core of Cazin, with locations of public institutions, which are written in Braille. The map’s legend is also accessible to blind persons.
