Young Community Leaders: Love of Cycling Inspires Initiative

Inspired by her sense of responsibility towards the community and bolstered by the leadership skills gained during the Learn, Think and Act! training, Sevda Muratović from Velika Kladuša decided to encourage fellow citizens, especially young people, to embrace cycling as part of their lifestyle.

Sevda’s local civil initiative included a series of activities that promote cycling as a healthy and fun activity and educate the community about the importance of a healthy diet and regular exercise. Participants learned about proper nutrition and regular physical activity, along with the benefits of cycling and its role in a healthy lifestyle. A professional athlete shared their own experience and inspired them to start building some healthy habits.

Another key activity of the initiative was an interactive class for children. It focused on the importance of physical activity and good nutrition, including exercises and a short mobility competition with prizes. Through play, kids learned about the importance of an active life and developing healthy habits at an early age.

Sevda is not just a cycling enthusiast but also a visionary whose commitment to the community is changing the way her fellow citizens think. Her dedication to promoting healthy lifestyles and a love for cycling make her an inspiration for all generations in Velika Kladuša.

“For me, this local civil initiative was a new challenge and an opportunity to contribute to the community, experience something new, and inspire positive and meaningful change. For the community and young people, it meant that someone was listening, recognizing their needs, and willing to work together with the rest of the community to find potential solutions to their problems. Through planning and carrying out our activities, we showed that individuals can initiate change and make a difference, but community support is essential for these efforts to be successful. I was really lucky to work with these wonderful people”, said Sevda.

This initiative is implemented in partnership with the Democratic Youth Association from Velika Kladuša, with mentoring and financial support provided by the  Institute for Youth Development KULT.
