Strengthening Activism of Civil Society Organizations in BiH

Oxfam and the British Embassy in BiH are inviting all civil society organizations in BiH to participate in the project “Strengthening Activism of Civil Society Organizations in BiH”.

The basic goal of this project is to help improve the abilities of civil society organizations in BiH to organize and lead advocacy campaigns and to ensure funds for conducting campaigns. This project should encourage civil society organizations to influence decision makers more powerfully and to demand from them greater responsibility and more involvement in public debates on the implementation of progressive ideas.

This project consists of two phases: phase one is advanced training, while phase two is mentorship and directing. The project will last 18 months.

The training course will have two sessions: 9-13 December 2013 and 24-28 February 2014. The trainings will be held in English language.

The goal of the training is to improve participant capacities and skills for planning and organizing advocacy campaigns. The training course will focus on helping leaders of civil society organizations upgrade their analyses of political and social changes in BiH and to equip them with tools and methods for developing and implementing advocacy strategies which correspond to the situation in BiH. Based on these criteria, 15 individuals will be selected.

After completing the training programme, the candidates will be expected to present an idea for an advocacy campaign which would be organized in the upcoming period. During this project, up to 5 of the 15 presented ideas will be given support through mentorship and guidence in planning and conducting a campaign, but also in communicating with the media. Although the participants will be given support in search for funds, the project does not include funds for conducting advocacy campaigns.

Oxfam will organize further trainings for participants in order for them to share their acquired knowledge and experience with other civil society organizations.
