The Government of Sarajevo Canton showed willingness to systematically work on improving the position of youth in this Canton by adopting the Draft youth strategy of SC during their session on 18 January 2018.
This is Sarajevo Canton’s first Draft, and was developed by the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth of SC, with the support of all competent ministries, assemblies, the City of Sarajevo, Student Parliament of the University of Sarajevo, Association of High School Students of BiH, and the Youth Council of SC. After the Draft was completed, it was forwarded to the Government for consideration.
This document outlines a systemic approach to youth and focuses on their needs through seven key areas: education, employment, healthcare, leisure, security, mobility and social protection.
Representatives of the Ministry noted that youth are an extremely important segment of the BiH population, and this strategic document sets the groundwork for future processes and activities intended to improve the lives of youth.
The adoption of this document will mark the beginning of a systematic approach to youth, with action plans that will allow youth to access their rights through institutional mechanisms.
Although the Draft was only recently adopted, it is a big step for Sarajevo Canton. The next step is forwarding the Draft to the Assembly of Sarajevo Canton for consideration.
The process of developing the Youth Strategy was coordinated by the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth of Sarajevo Canton. The Institute for Youth Development KULT provided professional advisory support to the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth of Sarajevo Canton for providing support in the process of developing a Youth Strategy for Sarajevo Canton.
