About UMiD Kids – Learn, Think and Act! Training for Kids

The Institute for Youth Development KULT has been implementing the training Learn, Think and Act! for youth leaders for more than 15 years. Our experience in youth work, and years of working with children in our School of Friendship program tell us that it’s crucial for children to learn about leadership as early as possible, so that they’re better prepared to tackle social tasks and schoolwork. Since leadership skills and connection with our community are developed at an early age, the Institute is launching a new training – Learn, Think and Act! for Kids (UMiD Kids).

UMiD Kids is an interactive educational program for children, consisting of 12 modules dealing with topics relevant to a child’s intellectual, emotional and sociological development. The program and topic UMiD Kids will help your children deal with the challenges posed by the society, develop their skills, support their peers, improve their emotional intelligence and self-esteem. In addition to the useful skills and knowledge, your children will also gain 30 new friends from all across Sarajevo Canton, and experience a different way of learning that will certainly give them a welcome boost in their growth and development.

Who can apply to UMiD Kids?

  • children between 8 and 10 years of age
  • children from Sarajevo Canton
  • children who love learning and new experiences
  • childen whose parents/guardians support their participation in programs such as this one
  • children who are free for one entire weekend a month for the next 6 months (February – July 2020).

Methodology (or How we will be working with your children)

The goal of this program is to improve children’s confidence, deepen their connection with parents, their school and friends, to help them see themselves and others in context and more clearly, to develop a sensibility to others and themselves.

Each session will contain interactive informal education methods, using games as a tool for working with children. This approach will give all children a chance to show what they learned, and help them develop their potential in groups and individually. Some of the exercises are designed for groups of varying sizes, and some are designed to be tailored to individual children. Parents will be informed about the methods when necessary.

After children learn about basic children’s rights, they will find it easy to follow rules of good behavior and politeness, they will improve their cognitive, affective and psychomotor skills, learn basic communication skills, build self-esteem and respect for others, learn to control emotions such as anger, and learn the importance of their role in teamwork. All these tools will help children embrace their role in their family, in school and in relationships with their peers.

UMiD Kids starts on February 28 and finished on July 26, 2020.

12 one-day modules will be held over the course of 6 weekends. Every weekend we will be working on two topics and enjoying field trips to museums, cultural, sports and other events for children.
