Preparing for Orange Day – Speak Up About Violence!

The Institute for Youth Development KULT hosted thePreparing for Orange Dayevent to recognize and award symbolic prizes to winners of a competition for the best artistic and literary works on the theme Speak Up About Violence!

Today we celebrated not only art and literature, but also the power of youth, the power of creativity and the power of community.

The call for art and writing on the topic: “Speak Up About Violence!” offered primary and secondary school students in Bosnia and Herzegovina an opportunity to explore positive social change and contribute to addressing violence against women and girls through art and personal reflection. The competition was intended to empower youth as initiators of positive change.

“As we come together to reward students’ creative efforts, we’re not just celebrating their talents; we’re celebrating their courage. These young people remind us that we can no longer be passive observers. We must actively participate in the change we want to see in the world,” said Ajka Rovčanin, Executive Director of the Institute for Youth Development KULT.

“Our society needs to acknowledge that violence is unfortunately increasing in our country, and we can’t help by silently observing it. That’s why I decided to write something and contribute,” said the award winner, Hana Vuga, an elementary school student at “Husein Ef. Đozo” Goražde.

This activity finished with a screening of a short video by Armin Kovačević, a student from the First Elementary School in Ilidža. The video paints a very gloomy picture of Bosnian society when it comes to this topic. Armin decided to speak up through this video and share his creativity, courage and desire to actively participate in creating a better future for all of us.

The Institute for Youth Development KULT has been addressing the issue of violence against women and girls for years and celebrates Orange Day – Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and Girls every month. The Institute for Youth Development KULT uses different campaigns and activities to draw attention to violence against women and girls, educate youth on gender equality and women’s rights, how to report and prevent violence and advocate for the best solutions to address and eliminate violence against women and girls.

The event “Preparing for Orange Day” was an opportunity to raise awareness about the importance of fighting all forms of violence.

We try to promote the steps we take to make our community safer for everyone.

The Institute for Youth Development KULT thanks all the participants for their valuable contributions!
