Youth are not satisfied with the quality of life in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which is particularly prominent in rural areas. Youth say they don’t have enough options or space for spending their free time.
Youth from Bijelo Polje near Mostar decided to step up and help themselves and their fellow citizens. They decided to improve their quality of life by planting trees and building a park, which is something they can leave to future generations.
“Children’s Park and Parkway” is the title of the initiative launched by youth from the association “Youth Development Center”. They wanted to improve and enrich the day-to-day life of their fellow citizen, and give them a healthier space ideal for recreational activities.
This initiative will set the groundwork for a future recreational center for children and adults in this town, with major ecological potential for the citizen of Mostar and its suburbs. The initiative was supported by the Institute for Youth Development KULT, which often takes part in initiative that motivate youth to be more active and responsible citizens, and participate in solving problems in their local community.
So far, they cleaned and prepared the ground for planting trees and building the park by removing weed and shrubbery, and illegally disposed waste, and planting 50 trees.
They installed new benches for the youngest members of the local community, making the space more beautiful and useful.
The implementation of this activity was supported by the Institute for Youth Development KULT, as one of the local civil initiatives implemented across BiH.
A local civil initiative (LGI) is an activity undertaken by citizens and intended to improve the quality of life in their community and society. Citizens can take part in civic activities individually or as a group, with the goal of drawing attention to and solving concrete problems in their community.
