Coffee with Jan Waltmans – Fighting Corruption in BiH

The fight against corruption and the political situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina were the main topics of another “Coffee with” event. This time, our guest was the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, H.E. Jan Waltmans.

The event “Coffee with Jan Waltmans” was held at the “Dječija kuća” youth center and included participants of the Institute’s “Learn, Think and Act” (UMiD) training course.

The ambassador shared the experiences of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in fighting corruption and highlighted the harmful impact of corruption on the future and prospects of young people in Bosnia and Herzegovina. He also provided examples of corruption affecting all areas of life. The discussion also included the current political situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and young people were interested in activities of the international community in our country and the steps that should be taken to improve the current situation. The discussion highlighted the crucial role and importance of young people in Bosnia and Herzegovina’s journey towards European Union membership. The participants concluded that informed, educated, and active youth are vital for transforming society and the political landscape of BiH.

At this “Coffee with…” event, young people were eager to discuss corruption and the diplomatic activities of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in BiH. They were engaged and interested, with plenty of questions for the ambassador. It’s crucial to talk to young people so they can learn about corruption and feel motivated to take action,” said the ambassador.

This event is part of the Say NO to Corruption initiative in Sarajevo Canton, implemented by the Institute for Youth Development KULT. The initiative, supported by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, aims to raise public awareness about the harmful effects of corruption, examine citizens’ and young people’s views on the issue, and provide basic information on combating corruption.
