September in Busovača – How Do Young People Contribute to Change?

September is coming to an end, and like the past few months, it leaves behind eventful chapters in the ongoing story of young people in Bosnia and Herzegovina. September in Busovača was filled with sports, education, opportunities, happiness, medals, and songs.

Young people are quick to recognize the needs of their peers in the community, which are generally quite similar. Often, young people from smaller communities seek opportunities in nearby towns. This September, the Association “Princip” from Busovača provided young people in Busovača with engaging content and activities they want to participate in. Recognizing the potential for progress and inspiring stories, the Institute for Youth Development KULT decided to support their activities.

We attended the closing ceremony of the Youth Festival in Busovača and witnessed the awarding of diplomas and medals to the most successful young participants in the event’s activities. With cheers and laughter, the participants proudly left the hall wearing medals, some with several around their necks. The evening culminated in a concert by Amel Ćurić, bringing smiles to the faces of the people of Busovača, especially the children and young people. We met so many young people who were excited about the opportunity to attend an event without needing to arrange transportation or accommodation in another city.

Muhamed Mekić, a young individual himself, is the president of the “Princip” Association. Muhamed completed the Institute’s “Learn, Think and Act!” training for young leaders three years ago, and as a true leader, he decided to set an example for his peers and do something impactful for his community. Muhamed applies what he learned from the training in his daily life, particularly through the Association, by creating content and opportunities for young people in this city.

In an effort to make September interesting for young people in Busovača, the “Princip” Association organized various sports activities and educational workshops. The sports activities included competitions in football, volleyball, basketball, and table tennis. Youth were also able to take part in a variety of educational workshops. The educational workshops covered topics such as entrepreneurship, healthy lifestyles, and communication skills. Young people said all of the topics were very important and useful, and their active participation in the workshops proves that they want to learn.

Busovača is a town with engaged and motivated young people who have the desire and ability to make positive changes in their community. By diligently working on various activities, celebrating important dates, and focusing on topics important to young people, the Association “Princip” frequently creates opportunities for youth in Busovača. Young people eagerly embrace these opportunities because they allow them to meet their peers, form friendships, and create memories while gaining knowledge and experience that will help them in the future.

The Busovača Youth Festival is supported by the Institute for Youth Development KULT, the FBiH Youth Council, the Busovača Municipality Youth Council, the FBiH Ministry of Culture and Sports and local business owners.

The Association “Princip” continues to collaborate with the Institute on their own growth through assessing and strengthening organizational capacities as part of the Localworks program. Their goal is to become a strong and recognizable organization that can improve the lives of youth in the community, inspiring them and being their go-to resource for making their ideas a reality.

We are proud of all young people who use their knowledge to build a better future for their peers and the community. By supporting each other and taking bold steps forward, we can achieve significant results and create a better future for young people eager to learn. This collaborative effort aims to consistently generate positive stories about those whose effort, desire, and hard work shine through in our communities.
