Representative of the Institute for Youth Development KULT participated in a conference organised in Sarajevo by the European Foundation Centre (EFC). The EFC is an organisational body of foundations in Euope and beyond, founded in 1989, with the mission of supporting the philanthropic sector in Europe, which entails an active effort to promote human welfare.
The conference Rethinking Europe: Solidarity, Civil Society and Political Governance, was held in Sarajevo, May 15-17, 2014. Many prominent persons from the economic sector, civil society and international organisations attended and discussed the future of Europe and the European Union, and the participation of youth in creating Europe’s future. Topics of discussion included burning issues in Europe such as youth unemployment, social inclusion, political participation of youth and international solidarity. The attendees discussed social entrepreneurship as a relevant model for sustainable economic development of BiH and the region. The conference was an excellent opportunity for networking of NGO’s with the economic sectors, but also with the world’s largest donors. The conference included a thematic evening on youth, in which several volunteers from the Institute took part.
The conclusion is that there is no alternative to solidarity, and foundations had an opportunity to provide financial assistance to the population affected by the floods.
In addition to the conference, members of the European Foundation Centre held the 25th annual General Assembly, and next year the Conference and the EFC General Assembly will be held in Milan. The host of this year’s conference was the Mozaik Foundation, in cooperation with the MaŠta Agency.
