Volunteers of USAID Partners in BiH Beautify Park Opposite the City Hall

On May 7, 2014, the Institute for Youth Development KULT, in partnership with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), as part of the project Strengthening Institutional Capacity of USAID Partners in BiH organised a public beautification of the city park across the City Hall, prior to the opening of one of the most beautiful buildings and symbols of Sarajevo. Representatives of USAID’s Mission to BiH were very pleased with the activity and expressed gratitude to the European Union, who funded the reconstruction of the City Hall.

“I would like to thank our partner, the EU and citizens of Sarajevo, and congratulate them on the work and effort put into the opening of the City Hall. We know how important this building is to the citizens of Sarajevo and to Sarajevo’s cultural heritage. The USAID is pleased to be part of this important event celebrating the cultural heritage of BiH. Last month we celebrated the natural beauty of BiH, and in May and June we celebrate the cultural heritage of BiH and the tradition of this incredibly beautiful country. We hope to also celebrate the opening of Zemaljski Muzej soon.”, said Steve Majors, Programme Officer at USAID, inviting all to come and enjoy the festive opening ceremony on May 9, at 5 pm.

The opening ceremony of the famous symbol of a confluence of civilisations will begin at 5:30 pm with the first official reception of Sarajevo Mayor in the City Hall, during which he will present a certificate and gift to friends – donors from the EU, who have been providing financial support in rebuilding the City Hall over the past 18 years. On the same day, at 7 pm, the Sarajevo Philharmonic will hold a 2-hour open-stage concert spectacle opposite this magnificent building in the immediate vicinity of the newly beautified park, including 200 creative youth and renowned artists from Sarajevo and BiH. The City of Sarajevo, which gave an important contribution to the entire event will have a clean park brimming with flowers in which to hold promotions of the City’s tourist attractions through presentation stands of Sarajevo’s traditional crafts.
