Strengthening the Tuzla Canton Youth Council – two new municipality youth councils to be established soon!
As a part of the initiative „Acknowledge, recognise, change“ realised by the Youth Movement Revolt from Tuzla on the area of Northeastern Bosnia and in collaboration with the youth organisations from six municipalities, the Youth Association Plamen nade (Flame of Hope) (from Živinice) organised a workshop entitled Why do we need a Youth Council? on 28 February 2015. With participants from Živinice, Tuzla and Srebrenik topics such as the advantage of youth councils in a local community, the obligations of local authorities towards a youth council and the process of establishing a youth council itself were discussed, along with presenting the Stari Grad Youth Council in Sarajevo as a good example. The entire process was presented to the participants by a representative from the Institute for Youth Development KULT.
In the end, a discussion was held about the perspectives of establishing youth councils in the participants’ municipalities. There is a youth council in Srebrenik that is a member of the Tuzla Canton Youth Council and there is an encouraging information that an initiative in Tuzla for establishing a youth council already exists and that a list of youth organisations in Tuzla Municipality might be expected soon along with the fact that the organisations from Ĺ˝ivinice are willing to enter the process of establishing youth councils thus providing young people a representative body and enabling them to be a part of the structure of the youth umbrella body in Tuzla Canton.
