Strengthening the Role of Women in Zenica-Doboj Canton

The Institute for Youth Development KULT, with the support of UNWOMEN, launched the initiative “Strengthening the Role of Women in Rural Areas of Zenica-Doboj Canton”. The initiative includes two municipalities: Visoko and Doboj-Jug that will be included in developing an Action Plan to improve the position of women in rural areas.

The initiative aims to improve the municipal and cantonal gender sensibility and support to advocacy efforts for changing the policies and budget through gender-responsible budgeting.

A research of state will be conducted under this initiative that involves:

– developing an analysis of institutional framework,

– acquiring opinions from the target group,

– acquiring expert opinion,

Data gathered from all sources will be identified, analyzed and grouped in 3 separate documents containing the corresponding research analysis (institutional framework analysis, requirements and problems of women in rural areas of Visoko Municipality, requirements and problems of women in rural areas of Doboj-Jug Municipality).

In order to ensure local proprietorship over the whole process and better management of all project stages, a multi-sectoral Work Group for developing the Action Plan will be formed for each of the two target municipalities. The Work Groups will be comprised of representatives of municipal and cantonal commissions for gender equality, mayors, municipal representatives, civil society organizations, including both youth and women, as well as other stakeholders.

The Institute for Youth Development KULT will hold trainings for Work Group members on the following topics:

Gender mainstreaming
Gender-responsible budgeting with emphasis on the role of women from the rural areas in the total development of the local community.

The research analysis results will be used to develop Action Plans as a strategic basis for improvement of the position of women in rural areas in the 2 municipalities. The Action Plans will be coordinated with the GAP of the existing strategic documents as well as with the appropriate action plans of the Canton and FBiH.
