KULT: „Words Hurt Too!“ #16danaAKTIVIZMA #365danaNENASILJA

The Institute for Youth Development KULT joined the marking of the global campaign “16 Days of Activism” this year as well, which seeks to encourage gender equality, even more for men and women being unequal in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Women are excluded from decision-making, men are the ones who are more represented in the judiciary, women do not receive the same remuneration and progress slower in their careers. Men are less involved in the upbringing of childred and women represent the majority of inactive workforce. In the end, what is the most worrying, in as much as 98% of reported cases of gender-based violence victims are women, highlights Nejra Kadi? – coordinator of the initiative.

Gender-based violence affects women and 47.2% of women in Bosnia and Herzegovina have experienced some form of violence after the age of 15. Psychological violence is the most widespread form of violence with the overall rate of prevention of 41.9% during a woman’s life.

The Institute for Youth Development KULT campaign #16danaAKTIVIZMA for #365danaNENASILJA, dedicated to human rights wants to raise awareness about discrimination against young people with a focus on gender-based violence as a starting point of the problem. Therefore, we have gone a step further and we organized a session of self-defence training for girls in collaboration with the association IKMF – International KravMaga Federation BiH. The first training cycle begins on December 3 at 17.30h at the Educational Leisure Centre SPAJALICA IlidĹľa and cycles continue until December 10 in the CSC IlidĹľa. All girls interested can be additionally informed at: biljana.dragas@kultbih.org, stresses Kadi?.

Young people are the bearers of responsibility and the creation of new, correct values, such as gender equality in the daily lives of citizens in BiH. Young people need to draw special attention to not only the physical but also the mental violence and put the focus on words hurt as a special message of 365 days of non-violence action.
