Institute for Youth Development KULT Signs Agreement on Collaboration with Zenica-Doboj Canton Assembly

Representative of the Institute for Youth Development KULT Belma Gijo and Mrs Draženka Subaši?, the Chairwoman of the Zenica-Doboj Canton Assembly, signed an agreement on collaboration for improving the position of women in rural areas of the canton. The ceremony of signing was attended by Mr Ivo Tadi?, Deputee Chairman of the Assembly, Mrs Naida Delibaši? and Mr Kemal Mušinbegovi?, members at the Assembly and representatives of the Commission on Gender Equality, Human Rights and Civil Liberties of Zenica-Doboj Canton.

With the aid from UNWOMEN, the Institute for Youth Development KULT started the initiative “Strengthening the role of a woman in rural areas of Zenica-Doboj Canton”. The initiative includes two municipalities, Visoko and Doboj-Jug. The aim of the project is to improve gender sensibility of municipal and cantonal authorities, mapping the position of women in rural areas and supporting advocacy for changing policies and budget through gender responsible budgeting. The final outcome of the project is developing municipal action plans for improving position of women in rural areas.

Belma Gijo, the representative of the Institute presented the activities of the Institute for Youth Development KULT that have been conducted so far and emphasized that she was pleased that the signing of the treaty was just a beginning of cooperation with the authorities of the Zenica-Doboj Canton. “Youth and women in Bosnia and Herzegovina live on the margin of society. Through similar initiatives we aim to improve the position of these groups in our society. We have selected these municipalities expressed a great interest to work on improving the position of women from rural areas” – added Belma Gijo, the representative of the Institute. The Analysis of the position of women in rural areas of Zenica-Doboj Canton was also presented today, in which it was demonstrated that most surveyed women live in miserable living conditions. “In municipalities Doboj-Jug and Visoko, amongst the examinees, there is a fairly high degree of unemployment amongst women” – emphasized Maida ?ehaji?, a consultant of the Institute for Youth Development KULT.

The same agreement had been signed earlier at the Doboj-Jug Municipality, and another signing is expected soon with Visoko Municipality.
