Institute for Youth Development KULT and Bosanska Krupa Youth Council Support Communities Affected by Floods

Even though sunny days have arrived, the recent natural disasters have left ongoing problems for the citizens of Una-Sana Canton, similar to the aftermath of the floods nine years ago. Heavy rain in the region caused rivers to overflow and triggered multiple landslides. The relevant authorities have declared Bosanska Krupa as one of the most affected towns. The Bosanska Krupa Civil Defense Headquarters declared a state of emergency. According to relevant reports, approximately 900 households and 250 buildings were completely cut off and could only be accessed by boat. The damage caused by this natural disaster is extensive.

To assist the vulnerable population, the Institute for Youth Development KULT, in collaboration with the Youth Council of Bosanska Krupa, will provide support to the most at-risk groups, including the elderly and infirm who may lack family support, as well as young people and children, helping them return to their daily routines as soon as possible.

The activities will involve a large number of young volunteers who will support people in affected areas while recovery efforts are underway.

Young volunteers will prepare and distribute packages containing food and personal hygiene products to approximately 200 vulnerable households. They will also visit schools to hand out packages with school supplies to students, trying to bring a smile to their faces, even if just for a moment.

They also helped clean the mud and sand, clear the yards, and help with other clean-up efforts in flood-affected areas. Assistance to the affected communities also includes heat drying equipment that can be used once the water recedes and shared among households.

The Institute for Youth Development KULT recognized the importance of supporting those in need and allocated 10,000 BAM to the Bosanska Krupa Youth Council, which will carry out these activities.

Volunteers from other cities within the Una-Sana canton are welcome to join the activities. Volunteers will be visiting other cities as well to help ensure the activities are carried out effectively and that support is provided to those who need it most.
