BiH Youth: in 20 Years We Want a Country in Which We’ll Wish to Stay

The new USAID “Time Capsule” initiative that will be “put to sleep” for the following 20 years after closing on November 21 was presented today in Sarajevo. It is a capsule that will contain stored messages on the future of Bosnia and Herzegovina and that will be opened in 2035 to compare the wishes of today with the future achievements of the BiH society.

The messages are being gathered across the country and they will finally be stored in the main, Alpha capsule that will be kept in the National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The whole project is a part of commemorating the 20th anniversary of USAID’s work in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the Director of the American organisation also stored several positive messages that will be revealed in 20 years.

“All over Bosnia and Herzegovina we see people really trying to put things in motion, although it sometimes seems like progress is slow. And when we thought about how to celebrate the 20th anniversary of our work in BiH, we decided that it was better to focus on the future than to focus on the past. I have been informed that during the first week of the online campaign over 600 people sent their messages. Also, the USAID will include the messages of how we see BiH in 20 years in the capsule”, said Peter Duffy, the director of the USAID Mission in BiH, by reading one of the messages:

“We wish for the communities in Bosnia and Herzegovina to be vital and provide every young person a chance to make their dreams come true.”

Among others, the capsule will contain many messages of young people from all of Bosnia and Herzegovina that will be gathered with the help of representatives of the Institute for Youth Development KULT.

“The end message youth form all over BiH leave in the capsule is that even after 20 years in Bosnia and Herzegovina they wish their country to be better and change the current situation. Youth want more jobs, less corruption and greater prosperity. We wish the youth to think both about their future, and the future of BiH,” stated Abela Purivatra from the Institute for Youth Development KULT.

The capsule will be closed by the American Ambassador Maureen Cormack on 21 November, and by that date the messages and wishes will be gathered physically and via www.vremenskakapsula.ba website.
