FBiH Youth Council Awarding Grants to Youth

The Youth Council of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, with the support of the Institute for Youth Development KULT is implementing a project called G(a)rant mladih (Youth Grants), with the aim of strengthening youth structures by funding youth projects.

To ensure the successful implementation of the project, the Youth Council of the FBiH, in collaboration with the Institute for Youth Development KULT, drafted a Grant Award Policy and Procedures and prepared all the necessary forms.

At the end of June, the FBiH Youth Council issued a public call for youth projects. Out of the 33 project applications received, the project selection committee selected 9 youth organizations to be awarded grants.

The project selection process culminated in a formal grant agreement signing ceremony.

The grantee organizations are Association of car enthusiasts “Street flew crew,” Association “Student Network,” Youth Association “Čaplja,” Youth Council of Busovača Municipality, Citizens’ Association “Princip,” Technical Club of the University “Džemal Bijedić,” Youth Center “Čapljina,” Center for Development of Non-Formal Education (CRNO) and the Student Association of Stolac High School.

What are the selected projects about?

The Association of car enthusiasts “Street flew crew,” through their initiative “Creative Steering Wheel,” aims to raise awareness among young drivers about the risks of driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs. This project educates young drivers through panel discussions and personal experiences, promoting responsibility and safety in traffic. It seeks to empower young drivers to make responsible decisions that prioritize their safety and the safety of others on the road.

The project “Youth for a Creative and Sustainable Community,” led by the Youth Association “Čaplja,” aims to foster an environment conducive to the development and intellectual growth of young people. It intends to empower young people by providing them with a space where they can drive positive change within their community. Through board game evenings, quizzes and workshops on youth laws and their rights, participants will learn and improve their skills while socializing with peers.

The “Erasmus in your City!” initiative by the Association “Student Network” focuses on promoting activism, youth engagement, volunteering, and other activities important for young people in local communities. The “Student Network” Association, which is part of the Erasmus Student Network, will organize six project activities aligned with the Network’s core goals: culture, education and youth, environmental sustainability, health and well-being, skills and employability, and social inclusion.

The “Activating the Central Bosnia Canton Youth Council” project, implemented by the Youth Council of Busovača Municipality, is designed to encourage young people to actively participate in shaping the future of youth in the Central Bosnia Canton. The project aims to educate and connect young people, enabling them to design activities that improve their quality of life. It also seeks to ensure the sustainability of the Council, which will work continuously to address the needs of young people in Canton.

The “Princip” Association from Busovača received a grant to organize a Youth Festival in the town. Princip wanted to offer a dynamic and diverse program, including educational workshops, sports tournaments and other fun activities. The festival provided young people with opportunities to showcase their talents, meet peers, learn new skills, and build self-confidence. The concert that closed the Festival was attended by over 2,000 people.

The “BEST Mostar Hackathon” 2024, organized by the Technical Club of the “Džemal Bijedić” University, will offer a weekend of competition, learning, networking, and opportunities to win. During the 24-hour event, participants will be challenged to innovate solutions to community problems defined by the organizers.

The “Čapljina” Youth Center focuses on the digital generation, promoting health, safety, and creativity for young people who have never known life without the internet. The project “Digital Generation, Health Promotion, Safety, and Creativity” aims to create a safe online space and encourage creativity among youth. The project kicks off with lectures on internet safety, followed by a photography course, and concludes with training sessions on mental health protection.

The Center for the Development of Informal Education (CRNO) is implementing the “Be PROactive” project, targeting young people in Sarajevo Canton. This initiative primarily focuses on members of the Youth Council in municipalities where these councils are either active or in the process of being established. The idea incubator will challenge young people to learn about important legal regulations for launching civil initiatives. They will receive mentoring while implementing their ideas in their communities.

The “Green Steps” project, implemented by the Student Association of Stolac High School, aims to transform an unused area into a space designed for young people. This space will facilitate gathering, socializing, and exchanging ideas, encouraging positive interactions among youth and supporting the development of their talents and interests.

With these grants, the FBiH Youth Council is offering many new opportunities for young people, success stories, ideas that come to life, fun, socializing, and learning. Aimed at creating a better present and future for young people, the Youth Grants project serves as an excellent guide for future steps in supporting local organizations.
