Third “Are We in Danger?” Lecture Held in SPAJALICA

The Educational-Leisure Centre for Youth hosted the third lecture on the topic “Are we all in danger?” The lecture was held in cooperation with the Discipline Centre for Underage Youth, and intended for 7th, 8th and 9th graders of elementary schools in IlidĹľa.

A special activitiy in creating a youth strategy for Ilidža Municipality was aimed at creating a survey on peer violence among seniors in elementary schools. The Educational-Leisure Center for Youth SPAJALICA conducted a survey earlier this year, in May, revealing disheartening facts – one in three persons experienced some form of violence. This prompted us to organize a series of lectures which would help youth manage such situations. The Discipline Center was a logical partner for hosting these educational lectures in SPAJALICA. Three lectures will be held there, on the topic of violence, said Vesna Filipovi?, manager of the Educational-Leisure Centre for Youth SPAJALICA.

This cycle of three lectures, one held every month in SPAJALICA is only a small step towards fighting and preventing peer violence.

The Discipline Centre is an institution concerned with the prevention of peer violence and any other form of violence. As part of tertiary prevention activities we employ educational-discipline measures, whereas secondary prevention is focused on individual preventive approaches aimed at youth which display high-risk behaviour but have not yet committed a felony or misdemeanor. Today’s activities in SPAJALICA are part of a primary prevention cycle aimed at 7th, 8th and 9th graders and high school freshmen and sophomores in Sarajevo Canton. Our goal is to enhance and improve youth’s communication skills and prevent conflict in a non-violent way, stated Adnan Džepa, senior pedagogical advisor.

The level of interest shown by seniors of elementary schools, as well as school counsellors, clearly shows that they want to learn more about this problem and will certainly benefit from these lectures.
