March 8 – Reminder that Fighting for Women’s Rights Is Not Over

As a part of commemorating the International Women’s Day, Mrs. Claire Bodonyi hosted a group of women enacting changes in Bosnia and Herzegovina in the French residence.

This was an opportunity to hold a discussion on numerous joint topics.

How to break the “glass ceiling” and fight against one’s own censorship in managing a professional career as a woman, the effect of the presence of women heading institutions and is there female “leadership” in Bosnia and Herzegovina and how to affirm female view of the world and changes were some of the topics discussed.

A representative of the Institute for Youth Development KULT participated in the discussion as well and noted that March 8 is still not a holiday of remembering the success in fighting for women’s rights, but a reminder that they still do not have equal opportunities and possibilities as men.

She also emphasized that equality of men and women is not a luxury for affluent and successful countries, but that it is one of the leading reasons for the success of countries.

According to her, in Bosnia and Herzegovina, despite the fact that the country is a signatory of many conventions, women are still not treated equally and changes in perception that women should pursue their own rights and that men are only passive observers in the process are necessary.

As she emphasized, education and media have to aid in changing this image.
