The University of Abdullah GĂĽl (AGU), of the City of Kayseri in Turkey, was presented with the honour of organising and hosting the first International Symposium on Youth Employment Challenges (ISYEC) from 23 to 27 June 2014.
During the previous decades, awareness on youth unemployment increased, along with the interest in the issue. Due to the global economic and financial crises and demographic factors, the unemployment rate of youth been increasing rapidly. Taking to consideration the relevant issues that youth are facing, the whole public in Europe and wider is aware of the necessity of proactive action from different sectors for the purpose of finding a solution.
The event was organised in the partnership between the University and the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Ministry for the EU (Turkish International Agency), the SALTO-Youth Euromed and the Resource Centre for Good Practice (on behalf of the European Commission).
The ISYEC was supported by the President of the Republic of Turkey, Abdullah GĂĽl.
The aim of this event was to provide an opportunity for academic research and cooperation between different areas of activities that relate to youth employment, strengthening exchange, transfer and results of cooperation between the following three sectors:
- Educational sector (formal and non-formal)
- Private sector
- Public sector
