“Without people like Srdjan Aleksic and his heroic deeds, one would lose hope in humanity, and without it, our lives would not make any sense.” In order to support our society to elevate empathy towards marginalised groups and promote ideas that Srdjan Aleksic had lost his young life for, the Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly in Banja Luka and CURE Foundation organised “Srdjan Aleksic” Journalist Award Ceremony for the second year in a row. The award winning ceremony was held on 8 and 9 May in Banja Luka, as part of the conference titled Professional and Ethical Standards in Reporting on Marginalised Groups. The conference brought together BiH journalists, students studying journalism, representatives of marginalised groups, NGOs and experts in the field of media development. Topics presented for discussion included the politics of marginalisation, formal and non-formal education of journalists, minority representation among majorities, as defined by one of the moderators of the conference, Mr. Davor Marko. The Journalist Award “Srdjan Aleksic” was awarded in several categories, and the main prize was awarded for professional reporting on marginalised and vulnerable groups. The conference is part of the X-Press II project whose implementation has been funded by the European Union. The objective is to improve the position of marginalised and vulnerable groups in our society through joint actions of the NGO sector and the media.
