UMiD – Learn, Think, Act!

A one-year training program for youth leaders for their active involvement in the community and the world of business.

As a part of the Educational-Leisure Centre for Youth SPAJALICA, KULT has been implementing the certified training program for youth leaders entitled Learn, Think and Act!, which, among other things, provides the participants with the opportunity to acquire confidence, reflect on their own capabilities and potentials, develop a sense of taking responsibility in the society and to acquire management skills as well as skills necessary for conducting business activities. This training program is acknowledged by the Ministry of Education of Sarajevo Canton and by a number of municipalities in BiH.

The UMiD – Learn, Think and Act! training is an officially recognized form of non-formal education that provides youth with an opportunity to acquire different competencies that will make them competitive in the labor market, and the program consists of seminars, practical exercises and volunteering. UMiD is intended for youth under 30 years old.

The UMiD training lasts for 1 year in the course of which the training participants (Youth Leaders) actively participate in the realization of civic initiatives in their local communities. As a part of the initiative, the attendants are mostly focused on one of four areas, which include: active engagement of youth in social processes, commemorating significant dates, strengthening ecological conscience in youth, active engagement of youth with disabilities and non-formal youth education. The initiatives were organized with the support of other youth, youth organizations, local administration of BiH as well as the past UMiD training attendants.

The project receives significant support from the UMiD Alumni – anetwork of Youth Leaders who have completed the UMiD training. In this manner, a “source of clever ideas” was developed and the whole project acquired the driving force for recognizing the current issues and influence them by advocating changes in the society.

In order to present and introduce the youth, authorized institutions, donors, partners and the public with the training itself, we published a brochure with additional information on both the training and the importance of non-formal education and its recognition. The UMiD – Learn, Think and Act! brochure is available in Bosnian and English language here.

All participants in the project become citizens who willingly take steps to change the society in which they live, express their opinions and actively participate in decision making in their community.

The training program “Learn, Think and Act!” is initiated approximately once a year.
