266 Young People Want to be Peer Educators

The quickest way to protect yourself and others from kidnapping, deceit, transfer, threats, sexual exploitation, forced labour, abuse, violence, acting according to other people’s instructions with use of force, etc. – these are methods which young people wish to get informed about and learn how to apply. Young people want even more – they wish to learn how to transfer the knowledge they acquired to their peers as well, so their peers could protect themselves properly.

266 young people responded to the Institute’s invitation to participate in the peer educator training course on human trafficking. Such a large number of applicants is another confirmation that young people have recognized human trafficking as a growing problem in fighting against organized crime, through which many women, children and men are subject to various forms of abuse, exploitation and violation of basic human rights.

The training course on human trafficking will be held from 20 to 22 November 2013 in the Educational-Leisure Centre for Youth SPAJALICA, Banjska Street 2, IlidĹľa, organized by the Institute for Youth Development KULT, the German development agency GIZ and Cartias of Bishop’s conference in BiH. The organizers will choose 26 training participants out of the 266 applicants, who will be notified about their selection by the end of the week. Considering the fact that so many young people were interested in this training course, and who have recognized the quality and effectiveness of this methodology of raising conscience and dealing with certain issues, the organizers will arrange another training course for peer educators, about which potential participants will be informed on time.
