12 Organisations Jointly Celebrate International Volunteer Day

Twelve civil society organisations united in the idea of jointly celebrating Volunteer Day in Sarajevo, displaying solidarity and gratitude to all volunteers that actively engage in daily activities and make the BiH society a better place to live.

On the occasion, in Sarajevo, the International Voluteer Day will be celebrated on 3 December with a Parade of Volunteers – a walk through the main streets of Sarajevo.

A public gathering of volunteers who will participate in the Parade will be in the parking lot in front of the City Hall at 11:00 am, after which at 11:30 am they will head towards the BBI Shopping Centre in the company of the Sarajevo Drum Orchestra, where the volunteers will take a millenium picture. After the programme in front of the Shopping Centre, the volunteers will head off to Dom mladih (Youth Centre) to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of International Volunteer Day with appropriate programme and a small party.

Caritas of the Bishop Conferece of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Dobrotvor, Humanitarian and Caritative Organisation Kruh sv. Ante, Institute for Youth Development KULT, La Benevolentia, Merhamet, Archdiocese Pastoral Youth Centre “John Paul II”, Youth Council of East Sarajevo, Association of Organisations for Supporting Persons with Intellectual Difficulties of FBiH “Sumero”, Association for Preventing Addiction Narko No, Association of Citizens Nešto više (Something More) and United Nations Volunteers  united and through joint strengths wish to sentisize the public to volunteering actions and indicate to importance of helping others and the community.  

European Commission declared 2011 as the year of volunteering, with the purpose of increasing volunteering and raising awareness of its value, presenting diversity and complementarity of volunteerism and emphasizing potential of volunteerism as one of the strong components of development. By organising the Parade of Volunteers, we contribute to celebrating the Volunteer Day all over Europe and in the world.
