Dancing Against Violence

Young women in Vlasenica, Sarajevo, Mostar, Bosanska Kruga, Visoko and Grude used zumba choreographies to celebrate Orange Day – International Day for Elimination of Violence Against Women and Girls.

The initiative with dance choreographies was launched by young women who participated in one of the Institute’s trainings for empowering women.

One in five women in BiH experienced some form of violence at one point in their lives – young women from BiH decided to draw attention to this bleak statistic, and this problem that is too often swept under the rug.

“Since this is a problem that exists in BiH as well, we decided to show our citizens, women in particular, that there is no shame in saying that they are victims of violence.” – said one of the initiators and training participants.

This event was intended to show the authorities that they have to intensify their activities and ensure that all the relevant laws are enforced so that there are fewer cases of violence against women in BiH.

The same campaign is conducted across the globe, thanks to the Global UNiTE youth networks, whose members include the Institute for Youth Development KULT.

The UN Secretary-General declared every 25th day of the month Orange Day, to remind the world about the importance of preventing and sanctioning violence against women and girls.
