UMiD IX modul 1

Conflict resolution was the topic of the ninth module of the UMID – Learn, Think and Act! training for Generation 13, attended by 25 participants from all across BiH.

The module was held at the Educational-Leisure Center for Youth SPAJALICA in Ilidža, on September 21-23, 2018 and focused on how conflict arises, how it can be resolved and how it affects youth.

“Although I’ve been to similar trainings before, I have to admit that the approach to this topic was extremely interesting and different. The exercises were interesting, and they can be easily applied to other workshops and trainings on different topics. All in all, a very interesting module that certainly makes you think about ways to resolve conflict.” – said Nihad Ferhatović, training participant.

The goal of the module was to encourage youth to think and act, and teach them how to resolve conflict.

UMiD IX modul 2

“This module taught me that no matter what kind of conflict we’re dealing with, it can be solved diplomatically and without force. Also, no conflict is strong enough to separate a functional team. This module empowered me and encouraged me to express my opinions without fear of being judged. Since the society we live in is constantly generating conflicts, I can now safely say that I’m ready to take them on, no matter how big they are.” – Samira Aličić, training participant.

The UMiD – Learn, Think and Act! training is a one-year training program for youth leaders and active participation in the local community and the world of business.

This training is an officially recognized type of non-formal education that allows youth to acquire various competencies that will improve their competitiveness on the labour market. It combines seminars, practical exercises and volunteer work and it is aimed at youth under 30.

The training, among other things, offers the participants a chance to improve their confidence, discover their abilities and potential, develop there sense of responsibility in the society, and learn about business management skills.

The first generation of participants in the training course Learn, Think and Act! for Adults received their certificates, during a certificate award ceremony held in Sarajevo.

16 participants from BiH, who work in formal education, directly with children and youth, developed the competencies they need for teaching.

The participants had an opportunity to take part in the “Coffee Time With…” programme, where they talked and shared experiences with the president of the association “Buy and Use Domestic Products”, Admir Kapo, and the best professor, according to his students, Vedran Zubić who talked to the participants on ways to reach out students and support their development.

This training program is an effort to support high school teachers in developing competencies they need to successfully plan and implement the learning and teaching process based on the principles of experiential learning, while using more efficient and relevant teaching methods and strategies that help foster a stimulating environment where students will feel supported and motivated, and embrace lifelong learning.

This training program is intended primarily for teaching staff in high schools, but also for high school administrators, expert associates and advisors at institutes of pedagogy who can support the professional development of teaching staff.

The program uses all stages of experiential learning: simulated teaching and direct experience in working with students, reflection sessions, connecting with other situations and understanding key concepts that will allow them to use their knowledge in various situations while teaching, and in different subject areas. This program is designed to respond to the needs of teachers and other high school staff by building on their knowledge and experiences, encouraging professional dialogue, an exchange of ideas and good practices, as well as challenges in their daily work.

Civil activism and volunteering were the topics of the second module of the "Learn, Think and Act!" training course for generation 13.

Participants learned about ways they can participate in the society and improve their community. Youth who are taking part in this training come from different parts of BiH, so the focus of the training were issues faced by youth in the community.

"A very useful module, fantastic trainers! Not a lot of theory, which in my opinion is less useful than practical work. In a very short time span, this module helped me make important life decisions." - said Lamija Mezit, a participant from Konjic.

UMID modul2

he organisers are particularly proud of the fact that that the participants found within themselves the answer to why they volunteer and why they want to contribute to their community. They also learned about examples od successful youth initiatives that inspired these young people to launch initiatives themselves.
