“Youth should have been placed at the top of the political list of priorities a long time ago, because the damage we suffer because of youth leaving is irreparable. We have to create the conditions necessary for keeping youth in BiH.” - said Bakir Izetbegović, Chairman of the Party of Democratic Action (SDA) in conversation with young politicians from across BiH.

The meeting of young people with Bakir Izetbegović, Chairman of the Party of Democratic Action (SDA) was one of the activities within the training “Learn, Think and Act for Young Political Leaders (UMiDp), conducted by the Institute for Youth Development KULT.

Young people were interested in issues regarding BiH joining NATO, ways to overcome current crises in the country, the importance of young people participating in political processes and ways to improve the society in general.

Youth want politics that lead to prosperity and a stronger economy, while sidelining issues that breed conflict. Young people go into politics because it’s relevant to their lives. They think that their seniors have spent enough time at the helm and now young people simply want a chance to prove themselves and bring a fresh perspective and new values into politics” - said Jasmin Bešić, Director of the Institute for Youth Development KULT.

UMiDp participants are young political leaders from 12 political parties in BiH. It is intended to motivate young politicians to actively advocate and lobby the government to solve some of the problems youth face in their local communities, setting and example for other young people and politicians and showing the power of political participation and action.

This is the second generation of training participants - 22 young people from across BiH, aged between 18 and 30, motivated to build a political career and work on improving the position of youth in BiH.

The intention of this Institute’s initiative is to place youth at the top of the list of priorities, and show that politics is a concrete discipline that can benefit young people in their everyday lives.

During the training, the participants learn about human rights, gender equality and democratic processes for improving the position of youth through developing clear strategies and successfully conducting advocacy campaigns.
