Youth in the Development Spotlight: Novi Grad Municipality Starts New Chapter in Care for Youth

Starting a new partnership always energises the Institute for Youth Development KULT, brings fresh ideas, and opens up new possibilities. Every community we work with is a chance to spark positive change and work together to improve the lives of young people. That’s exactly what happened during our recent visit to Novi Grad Municipality!

Over the next few months, Novi Grad Municipality will be working with the Institute to create its third youth policy. Their consistency and commitment show they’re serious about taking a long-term, strategic approach to youth issues, all backed with action.

At our initial meeting with the Development Management Department and the youth officer, we focused on setting a solid foundation for developing the youth policy. Right from the start, it was obvious that Novi Grad Municipality sees youth policy as a key part of the overall development of the municipality.

During our discussions, we agreed that the policy must be clear, implementable, and speak to what young people actually need. It was also noted that the new policy should build on the municipality’s development strategy and offer real, measurable improvements for young people.

There was considerable interest in comparing research data on the position and needs of Novi Grad’s youth with findings from other communities where the Institute has conducted similar surveys and analyses.  This will allow the Novi Grad Municipality to understand its youth within a broader context and more effectively identify trends and set priorities.

The meeting concluded with a shared understanding of upcoming tasks and a collective conviction that this collaboration will produce both a high-quality document and, more importantly, contribute to the quality of life for young people.

We are confident that through this process, Novi Grad’s youth will have the opportunity to create new, inspiring, and positive narratives about their community.

These activities are part of the project “Designing, Developing and Adopting Youth Policies”, which is funded by the European Union and implemented by the Institute for Youth Development KULT in partnership with the Regional Youth Cooperation Office (RYCO), the Youth Council of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Network of youth centers for animation, development and training of Republika Srpska (M.O.C.A.R.T.) and the Association of Secondary School Students in BiH.
