Young Leaders on the Path to Change

Another generation of young leaders has begun their journey through the Learn, Think and Act (UMiD) programme – an educational experience many describe as life-changing.

UMiD19 has brought together courageous, motivated, and committed young people determined to lead positive change in their communities. They are not just participants in a training programme but also activists, innovators, and solution-makers tackling the challenges young people face today.

During the first three-day module, this energetic and inspiring group explored key topics such as teamwork, leadership, communication, and public speaking.

Through practical exercises, challenges, and group work, participants began building essential skills that will serve as a solid foundation for the rest of the UMiD programme, and for their future engagement in community initiatives.

One participant, Asmir Omerdić, shared his impressions of the first module: “The first UMiD module in Konjic brought together top experts and practical tools we can immediately apply. Trainer Dražena Peranić guided us through communication and public relations topics with exceptional expertise, using countless real-life examples to help us define our target audience, craft consistent messaging, and manage crisis communication effectively. Then, trainer Adnan Pripoljac used hands-on leadership and teamwork exercises to show how important it is to define roles, use feedback, and support colleagues. His energy and passion truly engaged everyone. His workshop left no one indifferent. Finally, Selma Šljivo led a session on CV writing and job applications, showing us exactly what employers look for, how to tailor each CV and cover letter, and highlight measurable achievements so we increase our chances of getting an interview. Each session gave me valuable skills I’ve already started using in my initiative, and I’m looking forward to continuing the programme and my transformation.

UMiD19 is a three-month training program implemented by the Institute for Youth Development KULT. The program consists of 3 modules covering 10 topics that help young people become active community members and leaders. In 2025, 10 young people from 10 communities across Bosnia and Herzegovina will participate in the nineteenth UMiD cohort.

We will learn, grow, and take action together, because change starts with each and every one of us!
