UMiD Participants Ready to Lead the Way!

The Institute for Youth Development KULT held a certificate award ceremony for participants of the Learn, Think, and Act 18 training course (UMiD 18) participants of the Learn, Think, and Act for teachers and professional staff of secondary schools (UMiDt). In addition to the award ceremony, the event highlighted the importance of non-formal education for the BiH society.

“Since its founding, the Institute for Youth Development KULT has been investing in non-formal education, emphasizing developing leadership skills among young people. No society can develop without young people, and nurturing capable young individuals requires quality teachers and the support of all others who influence them. Being a youth leader is a great honor and opportunity, but it comes with big responsibilities. I know that together, we can support each other and change the world around us for the better. In the midst of our fast-paced lives, let us remind you that leaders must also take care of themselves and check on their own well-being while leading others. Don’t forget that this is the only way you can be a good leader in your community, your classroom and the society”, said Katarina Vučković from the Youth Work Department at the Institute for Youth Development KULT.

Young people who receive informal education training are better prepared for the labor market, more active in their communities, and often inspire others to take action and look for solutions together.

“I see myself as a leader here in Bosnia and Herzegovina. This training taught me some useful skills. I am proud to be here today and share my experience, and I am especially proud of the activities that my friend Vildana, who is also an UMiD participant, and I organized at the Youth Center in Zenica. With our local civic initiative, we proved that Zenica is more than an industrial city – is an activist city, a city of young people. We continue working at the Youth Center because our value lies in what we can give to others, said proudly Indira Agić, a participant in the UMiD 18 training from Zenica.

Through training for teachers and professional staff, the Institute aims to foster a classroom environment that goes beyond the standard curriculum. This training was designed to equip secondary school professionals with the skills and knowledge to identify and support active young people who are eager to continue learning and contribute to society.

“Thanks to this training, we – the teachers and other staff working in secondary schools – created new opportunities for our students by giving ourselves the opportunity to grow. All the training activities reminded us that teachers are important. In this modern age, everything is available on the internet and television, and young people can find and read whatever they want, but I believe that young people need us to guide them to what they need to be reading. Our role and our job is to help books come to life”, said Medina Sokolović-Alajmović, an UMiDt participant from the Secondary School Center “Nedžad Ibrišimović” in Ilijaš.

During the ceremony, we awarded 50 certificates and took the time to appreciate and celebrate all the activities that the participants carried out in 2023 and will continue to carry out until the end of this school year. The event was a great opportunity to hear different stories and experiences, to socialize, and draw motivation from each other.

The Institute for Youth Development KULT would like to thank all the participants for their hard work and is looking forward to seeing them reach their goals and live their dreams!
