Young people in BiH clearly recognize the challenges their communities face, and they are actively taking responsibility to address them.

The initiatives they launch not only improve local communities but also create a ripple effect of positive change, inspiring others to get involved and contribute. With their creativity, energy, and passion, today’s youth are a key force for social development and an inspiration to future generations.

At a time when many young people feel uncertain about building their future careers, there are those who choose to take initiative and shift the mindset of youth in their communities.  One such example is Selma Hamedović, a participant in the UMiD18 training from Ključ, who recognized the challenges her peers were facing in Ključ. Given that 43% of young people in the municipality expressed a desire to start their own business, Selma decided to take action to help her peers realize those ambitions.

She launched an initiative that allowed young people to learn the basics of starting their own business, writing business plans, and maintaining long-term sustainability. In addition, they had the opportunity to learn from experienced mentors who offered knowledge and support that is essential in the early stages of entrepreneurship.

Young people are the future of our community,Selma emphasized, noting that this initiative was just one step toward raising awareness among youth about how to take control of their own lives and careers. Through this initiative, young people had the chance to gain knowledge and build the confidence necessary for a successful start in entrepreneurship.

Azra Musić from Tuzla also showed the courage to take action in her community by recognizing the need to address youth mental health. She launched the initiative Traveling Counseling Center, which allowed young people to explore mental health topics through workshops, individual counseling sessions, and discussions about the importance of self-care. Azra stressed the importance of showing youth that taking care of mental health is a sign of strength, not weakness.

The Traveling Psychological Center provided a space where young people could open up, share their experiences, and develop the skills needed to overcome everyday challenges.

Sumeja Muratović from Doboj Jug also took steps to create change in her community through a local civil initiative. She organized activities that brought young people together and encouraged them to actively participate in the community.

Through various educational and humanitarian actions, Sumeja and her team of young volunteers contributed to the development of the community, helping those who needed it most.

“Volunteering is the path to building a stronger and more compassionate community. For young people, this initiative offers experience and knowledge, opening the door to the world of activism,” Sumeja noted.

These initiatives clearly demonstrate the strength of young people who are not merely passive observers but are ready to make change happen.

By launching their own initiatives, young people can shape not only their own future but also the future of their communities. Each of these stories is a testament to how individuals, regardless of their circumstances, can find ways to bring about positive change and inspire others to take action.

Through these efforts, youth show that they are not just the future, but the present, with the power to shape a better world for all of us.
