Youth can use online activism to contribute directly and indirectly to their local community and wider, by promoting and advocating ideas and activities that will have a positive outcome. In order to introduce youth more closely to the tools they can use on the Internet, a Facebook page Online Activism was initiated. How to use FACEBOOK, TWITTER, VIDEO, CROWDMAPPING or PHOTOS? Can a single person initiate changes?

Online activism is a method of using new communication technologies for different forms of activism in order to ensure easier and faster communication amongst citizens (activists and those who are not) and to transmit the message of activism to a wider audience. On the  Online Activism page you can share your experiences. Be the change you wish to see. Also, by following the page you can stay informed about UMiD (Learn, Think and Act) online training and learn all about tools for online activism.  

"The aim was to show to youth that they, as individuals, can change the society. All great changes were once small and were started by a single person, a single idea. Through our website we will educate youth about online tools and through info-charts from the "Online Activism for Beginners" brochure. Also, we will inform them about the UMiD online training. Most importantly, we will provide space and opportunity to youth for public and open discussion of the changes they wish to bring and the manners in which they wish to accomplish them" – says Mirela Ajanovi? from the Institute for Youth Developemnt KULT. Institute for Youth Development KULT is organising a promotional activity "Online Activism for Beginners" that will be held on Friday 29 May 2015 in front of the Sarajevo Cathedral (Trg Fra Grge Marti?a 2), at 12 am.

Online activism for beginners is a brochure designed as a part of the UMiD online initiative for educating and promoting online activism and online tools for the purpose. We aim to demonstrate that through online activism the youth may directly and indirectly contribute to their local community and wider, by promoting and advocating ideas and activities with a positive outcome.

The brochure indicates to the advantages of using the Internet in activism. It displays over 10 online tools with detailed instructions – how, when, where and to what purpose they can be used.

The UMiD online initiative will enable youth to actively engage themselves by using the Internet. Youth will be able to attend UMiD (Learn, Think and Act) online training in four regional UMiD online centres in Sarajevo, Srebrenica, Jablanica or Velika Kladuša. The training will aid them in developing and implementing local citizen initiatives, to use online activism to act for the wellfare of their local community and to contribute to improving strategies in the local community by advocating the integration of online tools.

The initiative is supported by the UNDEF. 

It is possible to fight for changes "online"! Through online activism youth can directly and indirectly contribute to their local community, but also wider, by promoting and advocating ideas and activities with positive results.

With the promotional activity "Online Activism for Beginners", representatives of the Institute for Youth Development KULT introduced the citizens of Sarajevo today with Internet tools that can be used to make social changes. Around 500 brochures were distributed that describe the advantages of using the Internet for activism. The brochure presents over 10 online tools with detailed instructions - how, when, where and for which purpose they can be used. 

"With simple Internet tools you can make your own website, a page on Facebook and account on Twitter, make a video and upload it easily, organise livestreams of events. You can organise an online petition, gather funds for a new idea, present a research and describe it on a blog. All these platforms can be interconnected" - explained Mirela Ajanovi?, UMiD Online project coordiantor of the Institute for Youth Development KULT.

She added that these are simply tools that can make the process easier, but that real changes are made by citizens through their activities.

"We are plaesed that the citizens of Sarajevo, youth in particular, were really interested in hearing what we had to say. I am glad that youth shared positive experiences with us and that some of them already use online tools efficiently and are already acting as good activists" - concluded Ajanovi?.

Following Jablanica, Sarajevo and Srebrenica, a regional Online UMiD (Learn, Think and Act) Cetre was opened today in Velika Kladuša. Jasmin Beši?, Executive Director of the Institute for Youth Development KULT and Jasmina Keserovi? from the Democratic Youth Organisation Velika Kladuša signed an agreement on awarding a grant that includes, in addition to everything else, awarding computer equipment for the Online UMiD Centre. Jasmina Keserovi? expressed her gratitude for the support which, as she says, the Institute KULT has been providing to the organisation for years. Jasmin Beši? emphasized that the Democratic Youth Organisation was selected, along with the other three in which Online UMiD Centres were established, because their applications were the best of all those that were delivered. "Of the many associations and organisations that responded to our public call, we selected those with the best results", he pointed out. He reminded that so far the UMiD training has been conducted 11 times in an in-class version and that it was made accessible in an online version as well due to a great interest of youth. "In the end of June, in all four regional centres, we will organise regional conferences that will host around 400 youth who will attend the training" , added Beši?. Finally, he emphasized that all youth who successfully complete the training will receive a certficate. More importantly, as he states, they will acquire practical knowledge and skills that they will be able to use in the future in the business world. Beši? additionally spoke to youth about the problems that surround them and their perspective of their own future. DYO Velika Kladuša expressed their pleasure with the signed contract and future cooperation with the Institute.
