During a painting workshop held in Jablanica, young people had the opportunity to openly discuss topics concerning their future, their city, family, friends, and plans for the future.
The workshop was held as part of the Festival of Youth Culture and Activism (PYAF), in collaboration with OKC UrbanArt and the Youth Council of Jablanica Municipality. The workshop was led by Amra Budim, president of the Jablanica Visual Artists Association, and allowed young people to express their feelings, thoughts, and dilemmas through colors and shapes.
Through informal conversations, young people shared their experiences, emphasizing the challenges that life in BiH brings and their thoughts about whether they will stay in their community or seek opportunities elsewhere. Art served as a bridge connecting young people and enabling them to speak openly about their desires and needs.
Amina Karađoz, representative of the Jablanica Municipality Youth Council, reflected on the recently completed “Youth Vision” project funded by the European Union and supported by the Institute and partner organizations, emphasizing how that project focused on young people, their plans, and thoughts about the future in Jablanica.
What stood out about this workshop was the energy and inspiration from the young people, who showed that despite facing challenges, they’re determined to make positive changes. Their stories and artistic ability highlighted again how important it is to create opportunities for young people and help them recognize their own potential, wherever they may be.
The workshop was also a chance for participants to explore their own feelings, hopes, and needs. Each painting represented the participants’ courage and commitment to building a better future for young people in BiH, regardless of obstacles.
