Leading up to the 25th: Education, Activism, and Creating Change!

Participants of the “Learn, Think and Act!” (UMiD19) training programme recently took part in a module that introduced them to Orange Day and the activities the Institute carries out to mark the 25th of every month.

Orange Day carries a powerful message, serving as a monthly reminder of the prevalence of violence against women and girls. During the session and a group task, participants reflected on the importance of Orange Day, discussed ways to take action in their own communities, and exchanged ideas for future campaigns and initiatives.

“Orange Day isn’t just a date on the calendar, but a day that carries a strong message and meaning for all of us. We talked about Orange Day in the context of future campaigns and activities to combat violence against women, and we also had the opportunity to implement our own actions to mark the day and turn our communities orange. It’s a chance to be proactive when it comes to issues like this. Sadly, violence against women and girls remains widespread, and as active citizens, we have a responsibility to stand together and fight it in our communities, said training participant Lejla Latić.

For many years, the Institute for Youth Development KULT has marked Orange Day to raise awareness, promote education, and help prevent violence against women and girls. Through various campaigns and initiatives, the Institute educates young people about gender equality and the rights of women and girls, while actively engaging them in efforts that put these issues front and centre.

Empowered with new knowledge and inspired to act, the UMiD19 participants are now ready to launch their own initiatives and take part in future Orange Day activities.

Violence against women and girls, especially in recent times, remains a serious issue in our society. But through activism and collective action, young people can be the drivers of change and raise their voices against violence!
