Key Goals and Measures Defined for Youth Strategy of Brčko District of BiH

The Department for Professional and Administrative Affairs of the Government of Brčko District and the Council of Youth of Brčko District, with support from the Institute for Youth Development KULT, held a youth strategy Working Group meeting to review the proposed strategic goals. The proposed goals and measures were developed over several months by the Working Group and through the youth-government Dialogue.

Caring for young people is an issue of general interest for Brčko District BiH, achieved through adopting and implementing a youth strategy. This document outlines the defined problems and needs of young people, strategic directions, goals, and measures to achieve these goals. Adopting a youth strategy is an obligation of the Brčko District of BiH under the Law on Youth of the Brčko District of BiH.

“The Youth Council plans to ensure robust youth involvement in the drafting process, involving all stakeholders of the Government of the Brčko District of BiH, as well as relevant organizations and young people themselves,” said Vladimir Kanostrevac, President of the Youth Council of Brčko District of BiH.

The meeting focused on the strategic directions of the future strategy, aiming to create better opportunities for young people in employment, education, culture and sports, health, and security, as well as increase their activism and participation in society.

The youth strategy is a document outlining programs that address the problems and needs of young people. It outlines strategic directions, sets objectives, and specifies measures to achieve these objectives. It is informed by the results of an extensive survey on the needs and problems of young people.

According to the Youth Law of the Brčko District of BiH, the youth strategy is developed by the Department for Professional and Administrative Affairs in cooperation with the Youth Council and submitted to the Government of the Brčko District of Bosnia and Herzegovina for consideration and approval. The Government of Brčko District BiH approves the proposed youth strategy and submits it to the Assembly of Brčko District BiH for adoption.

The youth strategy is adopted and implemented for a period of five years, and the Government of the Brčko District of BiH is required to fund the required research and the development of the youth strategy.

The final meeting of the working group was held in Teslić and organized with the support of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the Swedish Embassy in BiH.
