Hana Sejmenović: Building Team Spirit through PR Strategies

When I first heard about the Institute for Youth Development KULT in high school, I never imagined it would be the place where I would have my first volunteering and work experience, gaining invaluable knowledge.

My name is Hana and I am a second-year student in the Department of Digital Communications and Public Relations at Burch International University.

I first encountered the Institute for Youth Development KULT in high school when I took part in their survey on the position and needs of youth in the municipality of Hadžići. As a high school senior, I worked as an interviewer and took part in analysing the results, and even then I could see how special and important the Institute’s work is for our society.

My second encounter with the Institute came through long-term cooperation between our Faculty and the Institute. Without hesitation, I chose to do my internship at the Institute’s Public Relations Department, wanting to make the most of my free time by learning new things and making connections.

During my almost three-month volunteering experience at the Institute, I noticed a special atmosphere within their team. Every task is approached seriously, yet accompanied by smiles and relaxed conversations that make the work enjoyable. I was especially inspired by Mateja and Razija, or as everyone affectionately calls them – Maša and Raza, both of whom taught me a lot. They showed me that it’s possible to strike the perfect balance—getting the job done with efficiency and precision, while keeping a cheerful attitude.

Their mentoring approach was invaluable to me, as they used concrete examples to explain how PR strategies work and how to adapt them to real-life situations. I was able to put all the theoretical knowledge from my studies into practice, and it turned out to be a dynamic process that was anything but boring.

I was particularly impressed by their unwavering dedication at every moment, coupled with their ability to maintain a welcoming atmosphere that made me feel at ease throughout my time there.

Volunteering at the Institute wasn’t just a way to fill my free time; it was an opportunity to become part of a community that inspired, motivated, and encouraged my personal and professional growth.

Maša and Raza taught me that the most important thing is to stay authentic and true to yourself while also fostering a strong team spirit. I hope to follow in their footsteps and inspire others with my approach and dedication.
